KINTAMANI

The high mountain district of
Kintamani takes its name from the ancient ridge-top market village
at the west and of the Batur
Crater. Mountain Batur is a volcano within a crater, the original caldera having
given birth to a child of fire and destruction that now placidly sleeps,
the occasional wisp of smoke drifting across slopes of black lava to the serena
lakeside. The original village is forcing its inhabitants to resettle on the
high cliffs overlooking the caldera.
